“ The Sun is God ! ” Turner was purported to say on his deathbed. I like the ambiguity of this statement, the either or, the implication that the Sun and God are equal. For myself, being interested in light, colour, the sun is the source, the lantern –  physically, metaphorically , spiritually -it feels good on the self on the pace around us. The marker of the progression of time through each day, each season, each year. Dawn – Noon – Dusk It is good to notice it. As much a vital force as a cliché. Each time its effect is different, Each dawn and noon and dusk. And maybe that is what Turner was getting to, that the sun is as much a blessing as God…… At twilight, to hear the birds sing each bookend of day to open and close the night.
