As a painter. Venice is always a must go to, and I must say until I went there, I kind of avoided it. It was too what you are meant to do. My head was still in the ‘wild spaces’. Of course the minute I stepped off the train and on to a vapporetto I was completely captivated by the place. Everything is about light and water and the city and its people seem to float amongst it. It is a heady mix. and soon I was caught in all the dream and chaos of this fantastic place. I spend most of the time there walking, riding on the vapporetto and making small little scribbles of the place in all its grandeur and minutiae. I have even been lucky to go sailing on the Lagoon, such a mysterious separate place but as the equal of the city. I hope it is a place I can always return to.
